as one of the last of them is dragged
out of the holes where they hid
and read his sentence via a distant loudspeaker:
"You have been sentenced to death by beheading
so that the blood that will be spilled
will wash the earth of the sins that
you have committed against her people
you will not be given any last words
as you receive the last rites,
in the hopes that your dead god will grant you
the mercy you refused to grant to the People"
